The Perfect Spanish Tapas Night

A Flamenco Feast: The Perfect Spanish Tapas Night

At Choquera, our Tapas Nights aren’t just meals — they are immersive Andalusian fiestas, set to the rhythm of flamenco and wrapped in the scent of saffron, garlic, and citrus. As a child in Huelva, I remember the long summer nights filled with laughter, music, and endless small plates of delicious food. That memory is the heart of our Tapas Nights in Newport.

We begin each evening with soft lighting, flickering candles, and a curated playlist of flamenco guitar or live musicians who fill the air with soul. Then comes the food — small plates bursting with authenticity. Think:

Gambas al ajillo (garlic prawns sizzling in olive oil)
Croquetas de jamón (our customers’ favourite)
Tortilla de patatas, soft in the middle
Paella de marisco, served tableside in its pan, rich with saffron and shellfish

We often pair each course with Andalusian wines — and explain the story behind every bite. Each night has its own theme: one week inspired by Seville’s Feria, another by the seafood traditions of Cadiz. We dress the room in colour, sometimes with fans and roses, other times with antique Andalusian tiles and woven baskets.

Guests often say it feels like they’ve stepped into a courtyard in southern Spain — even though we’re nestled in the Irish countryside. For me, that’s the magic: bringing a piece of home here to share.
